LACU160 – UTHSC Use of Drugs in Animal Experimentation

Use of Drugs in Animal Experimentation

Investigators are expected to use pharmaceutical-grade drugs whenever available, even in acute procedures. Non-pharmaceutical- grade chemical compounds should only be used after specific review and approval by the IACUC for reasons such as scientific necessity or non-availability of an appropriate veterinary or human drug product. Cost savings alone are not an adequate justification. See OLAW FAQ #4 <http://grants.nih.gov/grants/olaw/faqs.htm#f4> for more information.
