Effective July 1, 1989, the Tennessee General Assembly passed legislation, Public Chapter 317, entitled College and University Security Information Act.
Provisions of the Act require each institution of higher education to report to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) on an annual basis statistics for crimes occurring on campus and in student housing.
Crime data must be maintained for the most recent three‐year period and be available upon request to any employee, student, or applicant for employment or admission. Student applications and other published materials are to set forth clearly the availability of such information, using the following statement:
The University of Tennessee Health Science Center is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for students, faculty and staff. In accordance with the Tennessee College and University Security Act of 1989, The University of Tennessee Health Science Center has prepared a report detailing campus security policies and their effectiveness in protecting the campus community. A free copy of this report may be obtained by any student, employee, or applicant for admission or employment from Campus Police.
Security policies and procedures must be made available upon request to any student or employee or any applicant for admission or employment. Applicants must be told of the availability of this information. Notices about availability must be posted on campus.
At UT Health Science Center the Chief of Police has administrative responsibility for coordinating activities related to and assuring compliance with provisions of the College and University Security Information Act. The report prepared annually for submission to the TBI will be disseminated also to the UT Health Science Center Administrative Council.
