POLICY ON FACULTY HANDBOOK REVISIONS

The University of Tennessee Board of Trustees wishes to affirm the Board’s position regarding approvals needed for faculty handbook revisions.

The Board of Trustees approves policies and procedures, including faculty handbook provisions, governing the following and related subjects: academic freedom; appointment, retention, promotion, tenure, evaluation, and termination of faculty members; faculty workload; intellectual property rights; compensated outside services by faculty members; research misconduct; and conflict of interests.

For editorial, technical, and other housekeeping revisions in the policy matters listed above, the Board delegates review-and-approval responsibility to the President, the General Counsel, and appropriate Vice Presidents.

For all revisions in faculty handbook matters other than policies like those listed above, the Board delegates review-and-approval responsibility to the President, the General Counsel, and appropriate Vice Presidents.
