POLICY
Each college is responsible for developing program-specific admission requirements, including prerequisite courses, composition of GPA used for admission, and other requirements. These requirements can be found in the UTHSC Academic Bulletin and must be reviewed annually.
General admission requirements for all UT Health Sciences colleges include:
- Official transcripts from each institution attended. Official Transcripts from all colleges attended must be sent directly to the application system for the program. International applicants must have transcripts evaluated by a professional transcript evaluation service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) prior to application review.
- Previously earned grades of “D” or below in prerequisite courses are not accepted as fulfilling admission standards and are not considered transferable to the institution.
- All required prerequisite courses in science must include a lab concurrent with the science courses to fulfill the course requirement.
- The application must be submitted on or before the application deadline for the program of interest.
Application to the University
Application to the University occurs either through a centralized application system or through a Slate hosted application.
Application Review
Slate is the official CRM for the institution. All application reviews, decisioning, and communication of decisions must occur in Slate. Slate is managed by the University Office of Admissions. Academic programs must develop procedures for reviewing and decisioning of applications.
Non-degree Applicants
Some opportunities for qualified individuals to take coursework as non-degree students are available. These opportunities are for individuals who are not currently seeking admission to a degree program. Applicants must contact the program of interest directly regarding the possibility of taking courses for credit as a non-degree student. The number of hours allowed varies by program. The non-degree application must be completed and submitted six weeks prior to enrollment.
Reapplication After Denial
UT Health Sciences receives many more applications from highly qualified applicants than are admitted each year. A new application and new supporting documents must be submitted when reapplying to the institution.
Deferring Admission
If accepted for admission, applicants may be able to defer program enrollment for one (1) year, with a guaranteed position in the program for the next academic year. All deferral decisions are made by the program and not all programs permit deferral.
